Maria de Lurdes Modesto presented over twelve years, the most popular culinary program in living memory in Portugal.

Her particular style, favoring direct and improvisation (was the Portuguese pioneer of “live cooking”) earned her many admirers. The success of the format, which started her passion for Alentejo cuisine, led her to broaden horizons and to study French cuisine and the culinary traditions of Portugl. She wrote several cookbooks, among which are the Grande Enciclopédia da Cozinha, Cozinha Tradicional Portuguesa, (the best-selling cookbook in Portugal) and Receitas Escolhidas. Her name is still attached to the translation and editing of numerous foreign works.
